Citroen EV evolution begins with new, improved models

More power, better batteries and nice looking trim for e-C4 and e-C4 X

Citroen UK has announced that customers can now place orders for the latest versions of the e-C4 and e-C4 X electric models, featuring the brand's next-generation electric powertrain and the new ë-Series trim. Both models offer an extended range and enhanced styling, with pricing starting at £37,195 OTR. That's around a £1,000 jump on present top-end pricing and it puts the ‘price spread' for the full range of electric e-C4 cars at £6,000 (from top to bottom).

The new e-C4 and e-C4 X come equipped with Citroën's latest-generation 54kWh battery technology and an uprated 115kW electric motor, delivering a range of up to 260 miles (WLTP). This represents a significant improvement of approximately 17% over the previous 50kWh battery option. Both models support up to 100kW rapid charging, allowing for an 80% charge in around 30 minutes. The earlier versions that we tested were already pretty attractive, so these improvements should make the cars more attractive.

In addition to the upgraded powertrain, the e-C4 and e-C4 X now feature the e-Series trim, which includes bespoke styling elements and the latest technologies. The e-Series trim is available across Citroen's core electrified range, including the e-C4, e-C4 X, C5 Aircross Hybrid 136, and C5 Aircross Plug-in Hybrid. This trim level offers distinctive styling, enhanced interior features, and improved technologies for an elevated driving experience.

The e-C4 is now available in three trim levels: ‘Sense,' ‘C-Series Edition,' and ‘e-Series.'

The ‘Sense' model includes features such as 18-inch diamond-cut ‘Crosslight' alloy wheels, LED headlights, and a 10-inch central touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Safety features like Active Safety Brake with video assist and Forward Collision Warning are also included.

The ‘C-Series Edition' adds an Anodised Bronze Colour Pack and bespoke badging. It offers heated driver and front passenger seats, video and radar-assisted Active Safety Brake, and My Citroen Drive Plus with Connected Navigation. The new e-Series models stand out with a bi-tone Perla Nera Black roof, 18-inch Onyx Black ‘Aeroblade' alloy wheels, and a Dark Chrome Colour Pack.

The e-C4 X, available in ‘Sense,' ‘Shine,' and ‘e-Series' trims, offers a choice between the 50kWh battery and 100kW electric motor combination, delivering up to 223 miles (WLTP) of range, or the new 54kWh battery and 115kW powertrain, providing up to 260 miles of range (WLTP). Safety features include Active Safety Brake, Lane Keeping Assist, and Forward Collision Warning.

We're never quite sure what Citroen's senior management were thinking when they decided to settle on trim terms like ‘Sense' and ‘Shine', but (we guess) if you use terms long enough – they'll start to make some kind of sense to your audience.

The e-Series models of the e-C4 X feature a bi-tone Perla Nera Black roof, 18-inch Onyx Black ‘Aeroblade' wheels, and Citroen's Dark Chrome Colour Pack. Inside, they offer wireless smartphone charging, Citroen's HiFi System, and Alcantara-finished Advanced Comfort seats.

The new e-C4 and e-C4 X models are set to begin deliveries in July.

Will the idea of looking better, moving faster and driving longer appear to the Stellantis lovers out there? Probably. Having a model with a WLTP range of more than 300 miles would have been nice, but that would likely have pushed the starting price over £40,000 – so we guess a decision was made on battery pack size.
