Kia has confirmed that a production version of its concept EV9 all-electric SUV will be available in the UK and Europe from 2023.
The concept went on display at the AutoMobility event in LA last November.
Built on Kia’s Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the SUV is described as a “high-tech, flex lifestyle vehicle”, powered by a zero-emissions powertrain. It has an 800V electrical architecture, enabling charging rates of up to 350kW.
Specifically designed to cater for the large SUV market – the vehicle is 4,930mm in length and has a 3,100mm wheelbase.
Its bold, angular exterior features 22-inch wheels, LED headlights that are effectively hidden inside the bodywork, along with a ‘digital tiger face’ as its front end. There is also a panoramic sky roof to offer passengers a relaxing view from above.
Inside lies a 27-inch ultra-wide display, serving as the nerve centre for all passenger requirements, including media, climate control and comfort functions.
Significantly, the EV9 has three interior modes to capture different journey situations.
Active Mode is for when the EV9 is on the move to give an optimal driving experience, while the other two modes are to be used when the vehicle is stationary.
Pause Mode switches the seats around so that the first and third rows face each other. The second row of seats then fold down to become a table, which completes the lounge-like arrangement.
Finally, with the Enjoy Mode, the tailgate opens up giving occupants a view of the outside environment while sitting comfortably from inside.

And these are the core principles that will shape our future SUV creations.”
