Nissan gives peep at all-new compact electric car to succeed Micra

Nissan has given viewers a peak at an all-new compact EV to be launched in Europe that will succeed the Nissan Micra as the entry-level vehicle in its line-up.

The unnamed EV will be built at the Renault ElectriCity centre in France on the Alliance CMF B-EV platform.

The Nissan Leaf has poineered the EV market.

Nissan made the announcement as part of Alliance 2030 – a common roadmap between Nissan, Renault and Mitsubishi focusing on EVs and connected mobility activities.

“This all-new model will be designed by Nissan and engineered and manufactured by Renault using our new common platform, maximizing the use of our Alliance assets while maintaining its Nissan-ness,” said Ashwani Gupta, Nissan’s chief operating officer.

“This is a great example of the Alliance’s ‘smart differentiation’ approach. Succeeding our iconic Micra, I am sure this new model will provide further excitement to our customers in Europe.”

The shared platform enabled the companies to maintain unique styling for their respective products, as can be seen by the design preview of the new vehicle.

The Nissan Ariya will shortly be arriving on the UK market.

The compact EV will further enhance Nissan’s future electric line-up, joining the new Nissan Ariya SUV, Qashqai and X-Trail.

These EVs form part of the company’s Ambition 2030, a vision and roadmap that explores what the future of its mobility offerings will look like. Nissan’s ultimate goal is to be carbon neutral across the life cycle of its products by 2050.

Further information, including naming, launch timing and technical specifications will be released at a later date.
