Skoda reimagines classic 1203 van as EV

Škoda’s design team has unveiled images of a new project that has re-imagined the company’s classic models and repurposed them for the modern era.

A group of designers has given the brand’s most iconic models a dramatic makeover for Skoda’s 125th anniversary celebrations.

The company’s iconic 1203 van has been transformed into a 21st century campervan by interface designer Daniel Háje. The makeover features an electric drivetrain that allows for even greater space inside, along with a pop-up roof. Since Skoda is owned by Volkswagen, we would not be surprised if the model were to be based on the popular MEB Platform that is also used by the widely popular ID.3 and the first VW all-electric SUV, the ID.4.

The team has also redesigned the brand’s first-ever production car, the Voiturette A. as an open-top two-seater carriage designed for use as a fully autonomous tourist car for the streets of Prague.

Skoda has also given a makeover to the Monte Carlo and the 130RS. The former of these has a dramatic new roadster look and the traditional centre speedo is replaced with a floating hologram and a wraparound screen.

In contrast, the 130 RS is more recognisable as an homage to the original as the goal here was to update a fantastic car and not completely change it, according to stylist Aymeric Chertier.

“I wanted to refresh the original car, not change it,” he said. “I retained its essence and characteristic lines and added certain details that we know from modern WRC cars, for example.”

For now, although these projects look very interesting, Škoda has no specific plans to develop any of the designs created.
