Nissan Leaf best car for taxi drivers says Uswitch.com report

Nissan Leaf taxi Rio de Janeiro

The Nissan Leaf is proving to be an excellent choice not only for private buyers but also for taxi drivers. A new report by Uswitch.com that analyses multiple factors deemed the Japanese model the best vehicle for UK and USA taxi drivers.

Experts at Uswitch.com compared base model price, vehicle tax, emissions, fuel economy, comfort ratings, boot, front and back legroom dimensions. They analysed 23 of the most commonly used cars by private taxi drivers in both the UK and US. The Nissan Leaf came out on top scoring an excellent 86.3/100.

The two top-scorers in the fuel economy section were the Nissan Leaf and the Kia Soul EV as both have the best MPGe (miles per gallon gasoline equivalent) at 108 which is the equivalent of just £0.04 per mile. Both options are also guaranteed to meet the new zero emission capable (ZEC) licensing requirements introduced for London-only drivers on 1st January 2020.

The Leaf and the Soul are considered the two best choices for taxi drivers with the Hyundai hybrid Ioniq coming in third.

The Nissan also dominated the American chart with the Honda Accord following in second place. It is interesting to see how the Toyota Prius is at the fourth place in the US while in the UK it is only in the eighth slot, considering how many times you will see a Prius on UK roads performing taxi duties.

The Leaf had a smashing victory thanks to the fact that the fully electric car performed consistently highly across all criteria, with the joint top MPGe, no vehicle tax, and a strong comfort rating of 4.
