Vauxhall is planning on selling a pure electric version of its best-selling medium-sized van. The Vivaro-e will launch next year and will be a 100% battery-operated electric vehicle. The van follows after the all-electric Corsa-e, the company's first full-electric car and marks an important step in the company's strategy of electrifying its vehicles.
The Vauxhall Vivaro-e medium-sized van will be based on the PSA Groupe EMP2 platform (Efficient Modular Platform), which is designed for both gasoline-led and electric vehicles, such as the compact Citroën C4 Picasso II to Multi-purpose Vehicles (MPV) such as the Vivaro/Zafira.
The van will be available in two battery sizes: a 50kWh battery pack and a larger 75kWh variant. The former will provide an all-electric driving range of up to 125 miles, while the latter will have a 185-mile range, instead. Vauxhall has yet to share more details on the van's weight or performance. However, aesthetically it'll have a near-identical design to its diesel counterpart – expect a 4/5-door van, with a total length of 4.956m, a width of 1.92m and a height of 1.89m.

“For nearly two decades, the Vivaro has proven itself as a popular choice for moving goods and passengers alike,” said Richard Hughes, Vauxhall’s LCV Director. “Now, with emissions-free transport and deliveries becoming increasingly important in urban areas, the demand for purely electric light commercial vehicles is increasing accordingly. From small businesses and to large fleets, the all-new Vauxhall Vivaro-e is set to carry British business.”
The British brand is aiming to deliver up to eight electrified models by 2021, whereby the manufacturer wants its entire portfolio to switch to the cleaner, more efficient platform by 2024. It's expected that the successor to the Mokka X SUV will be added in 2020, while the electrified MPV Combo and Combo Life will come in 2021. Vauxhall is also looking to include an electrified version of the Astra, a small family-sized car.
