BYD has unveiled a comprehensively upgraded version of its compact electric SUV, the ATTO 3 EVO, signalling a major step forward for the Chinese brand as it continues to strengthen its presence in the European EV market. With a larger battery, significantly more power, optional all-wheel drive and a new 800V electrical architecture enabling ultra-rapid charging, the ATTO 3 EVO aims to reset expectations in the electric family-SUV segment.
The original ATTO 3 played a pivotal role in introducing BYD to European buyers when it launched in 2023, earning a reputation for comfort, strong standard equipment and competitive pricing. Now, less than three years later, the EVO version represents a ground-up technical evolution rather than a simple facelift, with changes spanning performance, efficiency, practicality and in-car technology.
At the heart of the update is BYD’s latest e-Platform 3.0 architecture, which brings with it not only higher efficiency but also a more sophisticated drivetrain layout. For the first time, buyers can choose between rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, replacing the front-wheel-drive-only configuration of the outgoing model.

Both versions of the ATTO 3 EVO use the same 74.8kWh BYD Blade Battery, based on lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry. This battery is paired with an 800V electrical system, a feature still rare in this class, allowing DC charging at up to 220kW. As a result, a 10–80% recharge can be completed in just 25 minutes, putting the ATTO 3 EVO among the fastest-charging family EVs currently available.
In rear-wheel-drive Design specification, the ATTO 3 EVO is powered by a single rear-mounted motor producing 313PS (230kW) and 380Nm of torque. That is enough to deliver a 0–62mph sprint in 5.5 seconds – quicker than many electric SUVs positioned as sporty alternatives – while still offering an official WLTP combined range of up to 317 miles.
The range-topping Excellence version adds a second motor on the front axle, creating a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup with a combined output of 449PS (330kW) and 560Nm. This drops the 0–62mph time to just 3.9 seconds, a figure more commonly associated with performance EVs than family SUVs. Despite the added performance and traction, the AWD version still delivers a WLTP range of 292 miles.
Beyond straight-line pace, BYD has also focused on improving ride and handling. The rear suspension has been upgraded from a four-link to a more advanced five-link multi-link layout, while the shift to rear- or all-wheel drive promises more balanced dynamics. Towing capability has also been improved, with both versions rated to pull up to 1,500kg (braked), an important consideration for family buyers.
Another key element of the ATTO 3 EVO’s technical package is BYD’s Cell-to-Body construction. Instead of housing the battery as a separate structural element, the Blade Battery cells are integrated directly into the vehicle’s chassis. This increases torsional rigidity, improves crash performance and helps free up interior space, as the battery effectively forms the floor of the passenger compartment.
While the exterior dimensions remain unchanged – the ATTO 3 EVO measures 4,455mm long, 1,875mm wide and 1,615mm tall – the new platform allows for more efficient packaging. This has translated into a notable boost in practicality, an area where the original ATTO 3 already performed strongly.
Boot capacity has increased by 50 litres to 490 litres with the rear seats in place, expanding to 1,360 litres when they are folded. In addition, the ATTO 3 EVO gains a 101-litre front storage compartment, or ‘frunk’, beneath the bonnet, providing a convenient space for charging cables or smaller items.
Subtle exterior design changes distinguish the EVO from its predecessor. Revised front and rear bumpers, slimmer side skirts, new 18-inch alloy wheels and a sportier roof spoiler give the car a cleaner, more modern look without straying from the established ATTO 3 design language.
Inside, the changes are more immediately noticeable. The relocation of the gear selector from the centre console to a steering column-mounted shifter opens up the cabin, contributing to a more spacious feel. A redesigned 8.8-inch digital instrument display sits ahead of the driver, while the centrepiece remains a large 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen – the largest in the electric family-SUV segment.
BYD has also taken a significant step forward in infotainment. The latest system integrates Google services, including Google Maps, Google Assistant and access to the Google Play Store for in-car apps. An AI-enhanced voice assistant, powered by a cloud-based large language model, allows drivers to issue more natural and complex spoken commands, reducing reliance on touch controls.
Standard technology highlights across the range include NFC key access via smartphone or wearable, wireless smartphone charging with active cooling, ambient interior lighting and BYD’s Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality. V2L allows the ATTO 3 EVO to power external devices at up to 3kW, making it useful for everything from camping equipment to household appliances.
Safety and driver assistance remain central to the ATTO 3 EVO’s proposition. The SUV comes equipped with seven airbags, including a front-centre airbag, as well as a comprehensive suite of driver aids. These include adaptive and intelligent cruise control, blind-spot detection, lane departure assist, front and rear cross-traffic alert, traffic sign recognition and intelligent speed limit control.
BYD has simplified the ATTO 3 EVO line-up to just two trim levels, Design and Excellence, with a strong emphasis on generous standard equipment. Even the entry-level Design model includes heated, electrically adjustable front seats, a heat pump for improved cold-weather efficiency, a 360-degree camera system and front and rear parking sensors.
The Excellence specification builds on this with all-wheel drive, a head-up display, heated rear seats and a panoramic sunroof with an electric sunshade, positioning it as one of the most comprehensively equipped vehicles in its class.

Both versions are offered with a choice of six exterior colours and two interior colour schemes, allowing buyers some degree of personalisation without overcomplicating the ordering process.
First customer deliveries of the BYD ATTO 3 EVO are scheduled for spring, with order books already open. The model is backed by BYD’s comprehensive warranty package, including six years of vehicle cover and an eight-year or 155,350-mile battery warranty, guaranteeing at least 70% state of health.
As competition in the electric family-SUV segment intensifies, the ATTO 3 EVO appears to be a clear statement of intent from BYD. With class-leading charging speeds, performance that rivals far more expensive EVs and a strong focus on everyday usability, it underlines just how quickly the brand is moving – and how seriously it is targeting European buyers.
