MG Unveils All-New MGS6 EV: A Spacious, Tech-Rich SUV Targeting the Heart of the Electric Market

MG has taken another confident step into the mainstream EV arena with the reveal of the all-new MGS6 EV, a C-segment electric SUV designed to sit between the MG5 estate and the larger MG IM6. Available to order immediately, the newcomer becomes MG’s eighth battery-electric model launched in the UK and the third to be built on the firm’s Modular Scalable Platform (MSP), the same architecture credited with shaping the driving dynamics of the MG4 EV hatchback.

The MGS6 EV arrives at a time when MG is enjoying sustained growth in Britain’s EV market. The brand has now delivered more than 100,000 electric vehicles to UK customers, capped recently by the 100,000th sale in October 2025. With UK sales exceeding 81,000 units in 2024, MG remains a top-ten brand nationally, buoyed largely by the popularity of its BEV line-up.

Against that backdrop, the MGS6 EV is intended not merely as a new model but as an expansion into fresh territory — offering improved refinement, markedly enhanced technology and a level of cabin sophistication not previously associated with MG’s more value-centred models.

Three-Model Line-up with Up to 329 Miles of Range

MG will offer the MGS6 EV in three variants: the SE Long Range, the Trophy Long Range, and the range-topping Trophy Dual Motor. All are powered by a 77kWh NCM battery, with the single-motor, rear-wheel-drive versions delivering a WLTP combined range of up to 329 miles. The dual-motor AWD model, which adds significant performance gains, returns a still-strong 301 miles on the same test cycle.

Performance figures for the two configurations offer a clear split in character. The rear-drive versions produce 180kW (244PS), good for 0–62mph in 7.3 seconds, while the dual-motor Trophy model jumps to 266kW (361PS) and 540Nm, slashing the 0–62mph sprint to 5.1 seconds. Top speed for all models is limited to 124mph.

Charging performance is competitive, with all versions capable of 10–80% rapid charging in 38 minutes thanks to a maximum DC rate of 144kW. Five drive modes—Normal, Sport, Comfort, Custom and Snow—feature alongside five regenerative braking settings including a full one-pedal mode.

A Strong Focus on Refinement and Cabin Quality

MG says customer input played a major role in shaping the cabin of the MGS6 EV, particularly the decision to retain physical switches and dials for core functions, a response to criticism of screen-heavy layouts in other EVs. Heating, ventilation, demist and volume controls all use tactile hardware rather than touchscreen sub-menus.

Soft-touch materials dominate the interior, and MG will offer two new upholstery combinations — grey leather-style with suede and carbon-effect trim, or beige leather-style with suede and natural-effect trim — on the Trophy models. SE variants use black cloth seating.

A central feature of the cabin is the twin-screen digital layout, pairing a 10.25-inch driver display with a 12.8-inch infotainment screen that floats above the centre console. The smaller display offers multiple graphic themes, while the infotainment system supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on all versions. Trophy models add built-in apps including YouTube, Spotify, TikTok and Amazon Music.

A novel touch on the Trophy grades is a 50W ventilated wireless charging tray, finished in suede to keep devices stable and cool — an unusually high output for an integrated charger at this price point.

Space is another key selling point. The MSP platform uses ultra-thin 110mm battery modules to maximise cabin room, contributing to what MG describes as excellent leg and knee space for all passengers. Luggage capacity is equally generous: 674 litres with the rear seats upright, rising to 1910 litres when folded, while a front boot (‘frunk’) provides up to 124 litres depending on drivetrain.

Head-Up Display and Semi-Autonomous Safety Suite

The MGS6 EV also becomes the first MG to offer a Head-Up Display (HUD), standard on Trophy models. Alongside speed and navigation instructions, it can project information from the vehicle’s “intelligent driving” systems to reduce distraction, according to MG’s presentation.

Safety is a central theme. All three models come equipped with MG Pilot, the brand’s full suite of driver-assistance technologies. This includes Active Emergency Braking, Lane Keeping Assistance, Blind Spot Detection, Traffic Jam Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Driver Monitoring, and Intelligent Speed Limit Assist. Seven airbags and a body structure comprising over 80% high-strength steel support the car’s five-star Euro NCAP rating.

MG also highlights its MG Pilot Custom function, which allows drivers to store their preferred ADAS settings so they can be quickly re-activated at the next drive — useful given regulations that require systems to default back to “on” after each restart.

Braking performance is backed by MG’s collaboration with Continental, utilising the supplier's latest integrated braking booster designed specifically for EVs. MG cites a 36-metre 62mph-to-zero stopping distance for SE and Trophy rear-drive versions, and 38 metres for the dual-motor car, supported by sizeable 321mm–345mm discs.

Exterior Design: Aerodynamic Efficiency with Cyberster Influence

MG has echoed cues from the Cyberster convertible in the MGS6 EV’s new split-grille frontal styling, complemented by angular daytime running lights and integrated high/low-beam units. The SUV delivers a drag coefficient of 0.27, achieved after more than 900 simulation runs and over 5,000 minutes of wind-tunnel testing.

Range-boosting details include an Active Grille Shutter (AGS), front-wheel air deflectors, and aero-optimised wheel covers. SE models receive 19-inch Meteor alloys, while Trophy versions step up to 20-inch Gulfstream alloys. At the rear, a full-width light bar, silver bumper detailing and an integrated roof spoiler complete the look.

Seven exterior colours are offered, including a new tone for MG, Stratford Gold, alongside familiar favourites such as Dynamic Red, Camden Grey and Arctic White.

Driving Dynamics and Platform Engineering

The MGS6 EV’s MSP platform supports both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations and is already proven in more than 50,000 MG vehicles on UK roads. The platform’s lightweight chassis contributes to efficiency and handling, while suspension is handled by MacPherson struts at the front and multi-link architecture at the rear.

Practicality for urban drivers includes an 11.1-metre turning circle on RWD models (12.4m for AWD). MG’s presentation notes that the car’s turning agility was a priority for real-world usability in British towns and cities.

Pricing and Positioning

The MGS6 EV range is priced as follows:

  • SE Long Range – £37,995

  • Trophy Long Range – £40,995

  • Trophy Dual Motor – £43,995

This places the car squarely within the competitive mid-size electric SUV segment, but with more space — and, in many cases, more equipment — than similarly priced rivals.

For MG Motor UK, the MGS6 EV is expected to broaden the brand’s appeal. David Allison, MG’s Head of Product & Planning, described it as a “significant new offering” that builds on the groundwork laid by the MG4 and draws stylistic influence from MG’s more aspirational models such as the Cyberster convertible.

Commercial Director Guy Pigounakis echoed this sentiment, stating that the MGS6 EV “embodies [MG’s] ambition to consistently exceed customer expectations” and predicted it would bring new buyers to the brand for the first time.

Taking MG Up A Notch

With the MGS6 EV, MG has clearly sought to reposition itself — still value-conscious, but no longer simply the “affordable” EV choice. By combining long range, fast charging, generous cabin space and technology previously unseen in its mainstream models, MG aims to challenge higher-priced electric SUVs and continue its strong UK momentum.

Early indications suggest it may well succeed.
