Vauxhall Electric Corsa Does 62mph in Two Seconds and 199mph With One Catch: It’s In A Game

Vauxhall has unleashed a stunning new concept car, the Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo, a fully electric powerhouse that rockets from 0-62mph in a blistering two seconds and boasts a top speed of 199mph. This virtual racer, set to debut in the Gran Turismo 7 video game this autumn, is more than just a flight of fancy; it's a bold statement of intent for Vauxhall's recently revived GSE performance sub-brand, offering a tantalising glimpse into the future of fast, attainable electric cars from the British manufacturer.

The Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo will also make its physical debut at the IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich on September 8th, a “phygital premiere” that bridges the gap between the virtual and real worlds. This dual unveiling strategy allows enthusiasts to experience the car's electrifying performance firsthand in Gran Turismo 7 on their PlayStation consoles, while also giving the wider public a chance to admire its boundary-pushing design in the metal.

“The Vauxhall Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo takes the GSE sub-brand to the next level,” says Steve Catlin, Managing Director of Vauxhall. “It not only shows what is possible on a small car platform, it also displays a clear view to the future. Taking the iconic Corsa nameplate and combining it with GSE high-performance engineering results in a breathtaking concept that will deliver OMG! GSE moments.”

Polyphony Digital CEO, Kazunori Yamauchi, the creator of Gran Turismo, is equally enthusiastic about the new addition to the game's roster of Vision Gran Turismo cars. “We are delighted to welcome such an exciting and innovative take on the Corsa to Gran Turismo, which will be popular with GT players around the world,” he says. “We love seeing Vision Gran Turismo cars brought to life as full-scale models and can’t wait for the reaction of fans when it is unveiled at the IAA Mobility 2025.”

Electrifying Performance

At the heart of the Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo is a fully electric, all-wheel-drive powertrain that delivers truly astonishing performance figures. Two electric motors, one on each axle, produce a combined 800hp and 800Nm of torque. This immense power is channelled through a single-speed transmission, resulting in the headline-grabbing 0-62mph time of just 2.0 seconds and a top speed of 199mph. The permanent all-wheel drive system ensures that all that power is translated into effective grip and handling, enhancing the car's stability and driver confidence.

For those moments on the track when an extra burst of speed is needed, the Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo features a boost function that provides an additional 80hp for up to four seconds. This feature, which can be recharged in four 20-second segments, is designed to make overtaking manoeuvres even easier and more thrilling.

What's perhaps most impressive is that this level of performance is achieved with a relatively modest 82kWh battery. The key to this efficiency is the car's lightweight construction. Tipping the scales at just 1,170kg, the Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo makes extensive use of lightweight materials throughout its chassis and bodywork, maximising its power-to-weight ratio and ensuring that it remains agile and responsive on the track.

A New Design Language

The Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo's dramatic performance is matched by its muscular and powerful appearance. While it shares a similar footprint to the standard Corsa, it sits lower and wider, with dimensions of 4.19m in length, 1.87m in width, and 1.4m in height, and a wheelbase of 2.65m. This purposeful stance is a clear indication of the car's performance potential.

The concept car showcases a new, more technical execution of Vauxhall‘s “bold and pure” design philosophy, with sharp, precise body lines and machined details that draw on the brand's rich motorsport heritage. At the front, a slimmed-down version of the next-generation Vauxhall Vizor houses an illuminated Griffin emblem at the centre of the signature Vauxhall Compass. This central design element acts as the car's backbone, with signature lighting bars extending horizontally towards futuristic, three-dimensional glass blocks. The vertical axis of the Compass is also illuminated, and a centre crease runs from the front bumper up into the aero-optimised bonnet.

This design language continues at the rear, where a distinctive Compass signature braking light, created using edge-lighting technology, is combined with bold VAUXHALL lettering. The wide rear taillamp merges seamlessly with the rear window, creating a clean and modern aesthetic.

Aerodynamic Innovation

To keep the Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo glued to the track at high speeds, Vauxhall's designers have incorporated a range of optimised aerodynamic solutions. Aero skirts in front of the front and rear bumpers, along with black aero wheelarch extensions, smooth the airflow around the car, enhancing handling and stability. The aerodynamic alloy wheels, inspired by the three-spoke wheels of past hot Vauxhalls, reduce air turbulence in the wheelhouses, further improving efficiency.

A substantial active aero diffuser and an active aero spoiler work in tandem to increase or decrease downforce depending on the driving situation. Both elements extend to reduce drag on long straights, and the rear spoiler can also raise up to act as an airbrake, providing additional stopping power when needed. Even the turn indicators have been concealed in the front and rear bumpers as slim edge lights to minimise their impact on airflow.

The car's striking visual identity is accentuated by a bold colour scheme. The body is finished in a lustrous pearl white, while the bonnet, spoiler, and diffuser are painted in a vivid yellow. The roof and front aero wheelarch extensions are finished in black, creating a sharp contrast. These black elements are made from Bcomp®, a lightweight and strong flax-based material that has similar properties to carbon fibre but with a much lower environmental footprint.

This colour scheme extends to the wheels, with the front Goodyear tyres mounted on 21-inch black-and-yellow rims and the rear tyres on 22-inch white-and-yellow rims. Both front and rear wheels are connected to a Bilstein pushrod suspension system, ensuring optimal road contact and improved handling.

A “Detoxed” Racing Experience

Inside the cabin, the Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo offers a clean, modern, and minimalistic racing experience that follows the signature Vauxhall Compass design theme. A sleek steering wheel provides an unobstructed view of a single head-up display that projects all the necessary information directly into the driver's line of sight.

A suspended, lightweight driver's sport seat, finished in black and bright yellow fabric, comes with six-point seatbelts to fully integrate the driver into the driving experience, while a roll cage ensures the highest safety standards are met.

In a nod to the future of in-car technology, onboard sensors alert the driver to the presence of other vehicles, such as a car entering their blind spot, via illuminated fabrics that cover the dashboard and door inserts. This “painting with light” technique was first showcased on the 2023 Vauxhall Experimental Concept and demonstrates the brand's commitment to developing innovative and intuitive driver aids.

The Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo is a powerful statement of intent from Vauxhall. It successfully combines the brand's strong motorsport heritage with the iconic Corsa nameplate, while simultaneously providing a clear vision of the future for its sporty GSE sub-brand. It's a car that embodies everything that GSE stands for: thrilling performance, cutting-edge technology, and a commitment to an all-electric future. And for the first time, everyone will have the chance to experience it for themselves in the virtual world of Gran Turismo 7. Maybe one day it will emerge from the game world to become a real car.
