Humax launches V2G-ready MX7

New home and business EV chargers for the UK market

Humax has announced the launch of its second-generation EV home charger, the MX7, which is set to arrive in the UK from June 2025. The new product range will offer both residential users and businesses access to bi-directional, vehicle-to-grid (V2G)-ready charging technology, with a particular focus on energy efficiency, safety, and compatibility with renewable power sources.

The MX7 chargers will be available in socket-only or tethered formats, with pricing starting from £649 (including VAT), excluding installation. The tethered models come with either a 5m or 7m cable option, priced at £669 and £699 respectively.

Designed for future energy systems

The key feature of the MX7 range is its readiness for V2G functionality. V2G enables electric vehicles (EVs) to not only draw power from the grid for charging but also to send stored energy back to the grid when required. This emerging technology is expected to support balancing the energy network at times of peak demand, though its availability will depend on several factors, including the vehicle itself, the energy tariff in use, and local grid infrastructure.

Humax has equipped all MX7 models with an integrated Power Line Communication (PLC) module and support for ISO 15118, an international standard for bi-directional digital communication between an EV and a charger. This technology allows the MX7 to identify the connected vehicle, manage energy flows, and support automated features such as Auto Charge, where charging can commence without the need for an app or RFID card.

Jeff Kim, president of Humax, explained that the MX7 was developed following extensive research into user requirements. He said: “With the growing adoption of electric vehicles and smart grid integration, and the desire for individuals and businesses to prove a positive return on their EV investment, we designed this range to ensure home energy optimisation as well as straightforward management of EV fleets.”

Focus on cost management and renewable energy use

Another feature of the MX7 range is its compatibility with most UK EV tariffs. This allows users to schedule charging during cheaper, off-peak periods, helping to reduce electricity costs. For homes fitted with solar panels, the MX7 chargers can also utilise surplus solar energy, providing an additional opportunity to lower running costs and make use of renewable energy generated on-site.

Smart scheduling and adjustable charge levels are built in, allowing drivers to customise their charging to match their household energy patterns or tariff arrangements.

Safety and installation features

Humax has placed an emphasis on safety across the MX7 series. Each charger includes integrated temperature sensors to monitor heat levels during charging, overcharge protection, and a tamper-detection switch designed to add an additional layer of security.

Installation of the charger has also been considered. A hinged front panel provides straightforward access for installers, while the design allows for interchangeable front facias, enabling users to personalise the appearance of the charger to better suit their home environment.

Business fleet charging and integration

For business users, particularly organisations with company car fleets or electric pool vehicles, the MX7 offers additional management options. The ISO 15118 standard allows for Auto Charge, enabling employees to simply plug in and charge without extra authentication steps. It also provides an opportunity for businesses to track charging sessions, enabling clearer reporting and reimbursement of home charging costs for company cars.

Humax says the system has been designed to integrate with third-party fleet management platforms and apps, streamlining administration and operational efficiency for businesses.

UK availability and support

Humax, which has operated in the UK consumer electronics market for over two decades, will sell the MX7 range directly through its dedicated EV charging website at www.humaxcharging.com/uk from June 2025.

The MX7 chargers come with up to a five-year manufacturer’s warranty and access to a UK-based customer support centre. Humax is offering both domestic customers and business clients support with installation, operation, and troubleshooting, via its network of approved installers.

The company maintains that its customer service operation reflects its wider presence in UK retail markets, where it has built a reputation through its range of set-top boxes, smart home devices, and mobility solutions.

Technical compliance and certification

All MX7 models meet the requirements set by the UK government’s Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV), ensuring compliance with current safety and regulatory standards.

It is important to note that while the MX7 chargers are technically capable of supporting V2G functionality, using this feature in practice will depend on the collaboration of vehicle manufacturers, energy providers, and local grid operators. Additional software subscriptions may also be necessary to enable selling power back to the grid.

Public showcase at Everything Electric Show

Humax will be demonstrating the MX7 range at the upcoming Everything Electric Show, held at Excel London from 16 to 18 April 2025. Senior management from Humax will be present at stand D54 to showcase its full EV charging portfolio, including the MX7 range, and to answer questions from media and visitors.
