Ford has launched a new initiative designed to address key concerns among UK drivers considering the switch to electric vehicles (EVs). The ‘Ford Power Promise‘ will be made available across the company’s full range of electric passenger vehicles in Great Britain, and aims to simplify EV ownership by bundling a range of services and incentives.
The scheme includes a complimentary home electric charger with standard installation, up to 10,000 miles’ worth of free home charging credit, and extended service and warranty coverage. According to Ford, this package has been designed to reduce perceived complexity around EVs and to offer additional peace of mind to new customers.
The initiative follows a Ford-commissioned survey of nearly 5,000 drivers across Europe, including the UK. The results revealed that 25 percent of respondents found the transition to electric driving uncertain or overly complex. One in eight drivers indicated difficulty arranging home charging, while one-third believed charging times for EVs were too long. More than 30 percent expressed concerns regarding long-term battery life.
In response, the Ford Power Promise includes:
-
A free home wall box charger with standard installation (valued at £899)
-
A home energy credit of £217, equivalent to up to 10,000 miles of driving on Octopus Energy’s ‘Intelligent Octopus Go’ tariff
-
An eight-year / 100,000-mile warranty on high-voltage components and battery systems
-
A five-year service plan, covering two scheduled services
-
Five years of complimentary roadside towing assistance, including recovery if the battery runs flat
-
Access to over 33,000 public charging points via the BlueOval Charge Network
-
Integration with the FordPass app to simplify charging payments
Lisa Brankin, Chair and Managing Director of Ford UK, said the programme is intended to make the decision to go electric less daunting: “Switching into an electric vehicle for the first time can be a daunting prospect for some drivers, so Ford have decided to simplify and de-stress the entire ownership experience by launching a one-of-a-kind promise to new electric car buyers.”
In addition to physical infrastructure and warranty support, Ford is also expanding its partnership with Octopus Energy to include favourable charging rates. Customers who enrol on the Octopus ‘Intelligent Go’ tariff will be able to charge their vehicles overnight for 7p/kWh. Based on the efficiency of models such as the Puma Gen-E, a full overnight charge could cost as little as £3.23 under this plan. The tariff also automatically adjusts charging times to take advantage of lower off-peak energy prices and increased availability of renewable energy.
Alex Schoch, Director of Flexibility at Octopus Energy, noted the potential for the partnership to accelerate the transition to cleaner transport: “With every electric car that takes the road, we’re getting closer to zero emissions transport – but to reach the finish line, we need to make green driving cheap and accessible.”
The Power Promise applies to all-electric versions of the following Ford models: Explorer, Capri, Puma Gen-E, Mustang Mach-E, E-Tourneo Custom, and E-Tourneo Courier. A £500 cash alternative is available for customers who do not wish to take up the charger and energy credit offer.
The offer is valid for vehicles contracted between 1 April and 30 June 2025 and registered by 31 December 2025. It is available to private retail customers in Great Britain only, and excludes Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands, and the Isle of Man due to limitations with Ford’s installation partners.
Ford has also confirmed that its commercial vehicle customers remain eligible for a separate incentive. This includes a £10 home charger deal for customers of the E-Transit and E-Transit Custom, which covers standard installation, a five-year hardware warranty, and one year’s access to Ford Pro home charging software.
The warranty included in the Power Promise also covers battery degradation, offering coverage if capacity falls below 70 percent during the eight-year period. The five-year service plan includes two scheduled services, in line with Ford’s two-year service interval for EVs. Wear and tear items are not included.
The Power Promise forms part of Ford’s broader transition plan for Europe, under the Ford+ strategy. The company aims to become fully electric and carbon-neutral across the region by 2035. Its European operations span 50 markets, with over 90,000 employees (including joint ventures) and 14 manufacturing sites, including facilities in Germany, Spain, Romania, and Türkiye.
