Smart Europe has announced the launch of its newest model, the smart #5, which marks the company's entry into the mid-size SUV market. The smart #5, which is set to have its European premiere, is not only a significant expansion of the brand's all-electric line-up but also its most versatile vehicle to date. Scheduled to arrive in the UK in the fourth quarter of 2025, the smart #5 promises to combine cutting-edge technology with practicality, offering an advanced 800-volt platform that enables a driving range of up to 366 miles (WLTP) and rapid charging capabilities.
The smart #5 is the third all-electric model introduced by the brand in the past three years, following the smart #1 and #3. It represents a new chapter for Smart as it transitions into offering larger, more family-oriented vehicles. The SUV is built on an 800-volt platform that enhances its range and charging speed, making it a strong contender in the electric vehicle market. It can charge from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes under optimal conditions, thanks to its high-capacity 100-kWh battery and 400 kW DC charging power.
This new model is equipped with a variety of advanced features across different editions. The entry-level smart #5 Pro includes a 76 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery and boasts advanced comfort features, a panoramic halo roof, seamless connectivity, and driver assistance systems. Higher-end models like the smart #5 Pro+ and the smart #5 Pulse offer increased battery capacity and additional luxury and performance features. The Pulse model, for example, includes dual-motor all-wheel drive and an expansive dual OLED central display.
For adventure seekers, the smart #5 Summit Edition offers enhancements suitable for off-road use, including an electric trailer hitch, roof platform, and a distinctive colour scheme that highlights its rugged design. The smart #5 Premium, on the other hand, focuses on elegance and efficiency with multiple colour trim options and premium comfort features.
The vehicle also introduces a new level of interior sophistication with features designed to enhance the driving experience. These include heated rear seats, a spacious and adjustable cockpit, and innovative technology such as a 25.6-inch augmented reality head-up display and a comprehensive infotainment system powered by AMD's V2000 chipset.
Safety has not been overlooked, with the smart #5 featuring a mix of steel and aluminium in its construction for a lightweight yet sturdy frame. Advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) such as the Smart Pilot Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go further enhance the vehicle's safety credentials.
Smart has also focused on the vehicle's suitability for varying driving conditions by incorporating five off-road driving modes in some models, catering to different terrains like sand, snow, and rock. This makes the smart #5 a versatile choice for both urban environments and more adventurous terrains.

Dirk Adelmann, CEO of Smart Europe, expressed his enthusiasm about the launch, stating, “We are proud to launch the smart #5 as our first-ever mid-size family SUV in Europe, built on an advanced 800V platform for superior efficiency and performance. As our most versatile model to date, the smart #5 combines range, usability, and future-proof technology. This milestone showcases our international team’s innovation and engineering expertise.”
Smart Europe, under the leadership of Dirk Adelmann and CFO Martin Günther, continues to strive towards making smart a leading provider of intelligent electric vehicles in the premium segment.
