Skoda Auto has initiated the production of its latest all-electric vehicles, the Enyaq and Enyaq Coupé, at its primary manufacturing facility in Mladá Boleslav. This new range joins the line-up alongside other Skoda models like the Elroq and the Octavia, showcasing the brand's ability to meet dynamic market demands through a flexible production line.
The commencement of the new Enyaq family's production marks a significant step for Skoda, following the success of its predecessor, which was delivered to over 250,000 customers globally and achieved top sales in various European markets. The new models are expected to build on this foundation with updated design features and enhanced functionality. Actual production follows on quickly after the initial launch announcement.
The Enyaq family is distinguished by the introduction of the “Tech-Deck Face” and a more generous array of standard equipment. Both the interior and exterior design of the new series adhere to Skoda's Modern Solid design language, which emphasises robustness and functionality. Notably, the vehicles incorporate sustainable materials and offer advanced digital features aimed at improving user experience and comfort.
Andreas Dick, a member of Skoda Auto's Board for Production and Logistics, highlighted the significance of the new production line: “Producing the new Enyaq family at our main plant in Mladá Boleslav underscores our commitment to the Czech Republic and to reinforcing the country’s pivotal role in the European automotive industry.”
The new Enyaq leverages the Volkswagen Group's modular electric toolkit (MEB) and is produced in the cutting-edge Hall M13 at the Mladá Boleslav site. This facility is unique within the Volkswagen Group in Europe, as it manufactures internal combustion engine (ICE) and battery electric vehicles (BEV) on the same line, allowing for swift adaptation based on consumer demand shifts.
The production plant also assembles battery systems for these MEB-based vehicles, supplying electric models across other Volkswagen Group brands with necessary traction batteries.
The latest Enyaq offers three powertrain options with two battery sizes. The power output ranges from 204PS to 286PS (150 kW to 210 kW), with the Enyaq 60 and Enyaq 85 featuring a single electric motor and rear-wheel drive. The Enyaq 85x introduces a second motor at the front, enabling all-wheel drive capabilities.
Aerodynamic improvements have been a focal point in the development of the new models. Features such as optimised air curtains, newly designed wheels, and a sealed gap between the radiator and grille contribute to an impressive drag coefficient. These enhancements help achieve a maximum range of up to 365 miles for the Enyaq Coupé and 359 miles for the Enyaq under the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP).
Standard equipment in the new Enyaq series is more comprehensive than its predecessors, including heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and advanced security and convenience features such as KESSY Advanced with Open-On-Approach and Walk-Away Locking, three-zone Climatronic, and Side Assist. The vehicles also include Predictive Adaptive Cruise Control (pACC) and Traffic Jam Assist.
New digital innovations in the Enyaq models include Remote Park Assist and Remote Trained Parking, enhancing the driving and ownership experience. The interior offers six Design Selections, focusing on sustainability and durability, reflecting Skoda’s commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility.
With these advancements, Skoda Auto continues to fortify its position in the electric vehicle market, offering models that combine style, functionality, and forward-thinking technology to meet the evolving needs of contemporary consumers. The company's strategy not only supports its growth ambitions but also contributes to the broader goals of sustainability and innovation within the automotive industry.
