XPENG, a leading Chinese smart electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, has officially launched in the UK, marking a significant step in its global expansion strategy. The company unveiled its lineup of cutting-edge EVs, including the world’s first AI-defined vehicle and a flying car prototype, at a launch event in London. Pre-sales for the right-hand-drive XPENG G6 SUV have commenced, with deliveries expected to begin in March 2025.

“Our launch in the UK, in partnership with International Motors Ltd (IML), marks a significant step in XPENG’s European and global expansion,” said Dr. Brian Gu, Vice Chairman and President of XPENG. “We are excited to bring a new era of smarter, more sustainable mobility to the UK market and globally. With XPENG’s cutting-edge proprietary technology – ranging from futuristic design and impressive range to ultra-fast charging – we are confident that our vehicles will resonate with UK consumers, offering exceptional quality, innovation, and an outstanding driving experience.”

The UK represents a key milestone for XPENG, being not only the largest EV market in Europe in 2024 but also a significant right-hand-drive market globally. This strategic move underscores XPENG’s ambition to become a major player in the global EV landscape.

XPENG has partnered with International Motors Ltd (IML), a company with nearly 50 years of experience in vehicle distribution, as its official distributor in the UK. Together, XPENG and IML plan to open 20 dealerships across the UK in 2025, ensuring a strong local presence and robust customer support network. “We take great pride in partnering with an innovative brand like XPENG,” said William Brown, Managing Director of IML, UK. “Together, we are committed to shaping the future of electric mobility by providing market-leading vehicles and services. And we can’t wait to start our exciting journey with XPENG.”

XPENG's vision extends beyond simply producing electric vehicles. The company is focused on developing an AI-defined smart mobility ecosystem, aiming to offer a more intuitive, safer, and highly customisable driving experience. This vision was clearly demonstrated at the launch event, where XPENG showcased a range of vehicles and technologies, including:

  • XPENG P7+, the world's first AI-defined vehicle
  • XPENG G6, Ultra Smart Coupe SUV
  • XPENG G9, Ultra Intelligent Flagship SUV
  • XPENG X9, Ultra Smart Large Seven-seater
  • eVTOL X2 flying car by XPENG AEROHT, an XPENG subsidiary and Asia's largest eVTOL company

The highlight of the launch was the announcement of pre-sales for the XPENG G6 Ultra Smart Coupe SUV. With a starting price of £39,990, the G6 aims to offer a compelling combination of performance, technology, and range. Its 800-volt supercharging capability and extended driving range are designed to meet the needs of UK and European consumers. XPENG emphasises the G6’s next-generation operating systems and premium features, promising a seamless and integrated driving experience.

XPENG’s commitment to global markets is evident in its continued expansion. Since entering the European market in Norway in 2021, the company has established a presence in numerous countries, including Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, and now the UK. Further expansion is planned for the future.

Founded in 2014, XPENG has rapidly grown into a prominent player in the global EV market, delivering more than 620,000 smart EVs worldwide. The company has also forged strategic partnerships with industry leaders like Volkswagen and BP Pulse, focusing on developing super-fast charging networks and exploring innovative solutions. XPENG aims to expand its presence to more than 60 countries and regions by the end of 2025.

The UK launch of XPENG marks a significant development in the electric vehicle market. The company’s focus on AI-powered technology, combined with its competitive pricing and expanding dealer network, positions it as a potential disruptor in the UK EV landscape. The showcase of its broader vision, including the flying car prototype, underscores XPENG’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of smart mobility.
