Renault has unveiled a glimpse into the future of urban delivery with the announcement of its upcoming range of electric Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs): the Estafette, Goelette, and Trafic. These three distinct models, all-electric and built on a cutting-edge software-defined vehicle (SDV) architecture, are set to revolutionise the segment when they hit the market in 2026.
The new range, produced in collaboration with Flexis, the joint venture between Renault Group, Volvo Group, and CMA CGM Group, will be manufactured at Renault’s Sandouville plant in France. This move underscores Renault's commitment to both electric mobility and domestic production.
The three vans – Estafette, Goelette, and Trafic – each carry a name with historical significance for Renault, reflecting their individual personalities and target markets, while sharing a common electric DNA. They are built on a new “skateboard” platform and leverage SDV architecture, offering flexibility, spaciousness, and adaptability for a variety of business needs. This platform, a major advancement in intelligent vehicle design, promises enhanced ergonomics, connectivity, and customisation options, along with reduced running costs and high levels of safety and performance.
Trafic E-Tech Electric: The Modern Workhorse
The Trafic E-Tech Electric represents the fourth generation of this highly successful model, which has sold over 2.5 million units since its launch in 1980. This latest iteration boasts a contemporary design, characterised by clean lines and a dynamic profile. Its short front overhang and extended wheelbase maximise interior space while maintaining a compact turning circle. Standing at under 1.90m tall, it offers easy access to underground car parks.
The Trafic's design incorporates Renault's new styling cues, including a prominent central feature with a backlit upper strip and distinctive daytime running lights (DRLs). The backlit logo adds a touch of sophistication. The side profile conveys a sense of dynamism, while the rear features a high body line and uniquely designed, asymmetrical hinged doors. Grained black lower body protection reinforces the vehicle's robust character, making it suitable for demanding daily use.
Goelette E-Tech Electric: Versatility Redefined
The Goelette E-Tech Electric revives another classic Renault LCV name, known for its robustness and adaptability between 1956 and 1966. This new electric version is designed for a wide range of applications, available in chassis cab, box, and tipper configurations, catering to diverse conversion needs.
Leveraging the flexible platform, the Goelette shares its front design with the Trafic, but its rear section is designed for maximum adaptability. It can accommodate a wide range of bespoke fittings and configurations, allowing businesses to tailor the vehicle to their specific requirements. The rear lights are both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Available with or without a running board, the Goelette E-Tech Electric offers a blend of functionality and modern design.
Estafette E-Tech Electric: City-Centric Design
The Estafette E-Tech Electric is a contemporary reimagining of Renault’s iconic 1960s van, specifically designed for the challenges of modern urban logistics. This compact vehicle, inspired by the Renault Estafette Concept, is just 5.27m long and 1.92m wide, making it highly manoeuvrable in city traffic. Its 2.60m height allows for easy movement within the cargo area, even for individuals up to 1.90m tall.
Sharing design cues with the Trafic E-Tech Electric, the Estafette features a large three-piece panoramic windscreen for enhanced visibility. The front end sports a distinctive light signature, with a light strip and integrated DRLs. Practical features for urban deliveries include a sliding side door with an integrated track and running boards for easy access. At the rear, a single-piece roller shutter door optimises the load space, while a stainless steel running board adds a touch of robustness. Grained black protection on the upper and lower body sections gives the vehicle a modern, dynamic look and provides essential protection for urban environments.
The arrival of the Estafette, Goelette, and Trafic E-Tech Electric in 2026 is expected to significantly impact the electric LCV market. Renault's commitment to SDV architecture promises a new era of intelligent, connected, and adaptable commercial vehicles, paving the way for more efficient and sustainable urban deliveries. Further details about specifications and pricing will be released in the coming months.
