XPENG G6 2025 Preview

Introduction

Tariffs aside, Chinese EVs are coming. Anyone who thinks the word “cheap” should be the main one associated with this development hasn’t been paying attention. While the prices of Chinese cars are often keen, the level of automotive manufacturing quality coming out of the country has reached a new level, such that when Tesla switched from its Freemont, California factory to importing to the UK from China, most owners agreed that their vehicles were better made. Now we have another Chinese EV brand arriving in the UK, and one that focuses more on quality and technology than price. XPENG cars have been on sale in Europe for a couple of years now. At last, XPENG is coming to the UK, and the first model to arrive is the G6. We had a chance to drive the car in Europe last year and at an exclusive UK preview day, ahead of the brand launch in February.

Price and Options

The G6 sits in the popular SUV category inhabited by the likes of the Tesla Model Y – a medium-sized SUV intended to tick as many family transportation boxes as possible at once. In Europe, there are three drivetrains available. A rear-wheel-drive car with a 66kWh LFP battery and 258PS takes the entry-level position, with a Long-Range RWD version sporting 285PS the next step up, using an 87.5kWh NCM battery. Topping the trio is a car partnering this battery with dual motors. Unfortunately, this version isn’t coming to the UK.

There aren’t any trim levels on top of this, so your only decisions to make are what colour paint you want (you might decide to opt for something other than the “eye catching” signature orange, although all other options are extremely sober, including white, silver, grey and black), and white or black interior. All cars use 20in wheels and offer a large panoramic sunroof. It may be possible to specify a towbar, but at present this hasn’t been confirmed by XPENG’s UK partner International Motors.

This is all obviously intended to keep things simple, providing the same equipment and technology across the board. The SEPA 2.0 platform of the G6 employs an 800V system, like some of XPENG’s other cars already available in the EU. This promises super-fast charging. There’s a 960W, 18-speaker sound system as standard, alongside a large, connected infotainment screen.

XPENG hasn’t yet announced UK pricing. In Europe, the base car is €43,600, while the RWD Long Range is €47,600 and the dual motor €51,600. All these prices undercut the equivalent Tesla Model Y respectively – by €1,390 for the RWD cars, and €3,690 or €8,390 for the AWD one, depending on whether you compare the dual motor G6 to the standard or Performance AWD Tesla. That bodes well, although you might not consider it enough of a saving to win you over. We’ll have to wait and see what UK prices are like, but XPENG UK told us that the pricing in Britain will sit in a similar relative place to Europe. We’re expecting this to be revealed on February 11^th, when the XPENG brand is officially launched in the UK.
