The new fully electric test models for the Neue Klasse have begun leaving the production line from the BMW Group Plant in Debrecen, Hungary. These will be examples of the first Neue Klasse model to go on sale, the “X” Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV), with the 3-series-sized saloon to follow later.
Milan Nedeljković, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Production said: “The production of the first test vehicles in Debrecen is an important milestone in commissioning the new plant”. From these maturity milestones, all logistics and production processes at the plant are being tested and constantly optimised under real conditions to ensure a smooth start of the series’ full production, expected to be in late 2025.
There is special attention paid to ”validation of cutting-edge production systems and tools, including their digital connectivity” as running system tests for the further vehicle model iterations helps identify further potential for optimisation and ready these fully electric vehicles for release in their homage to BMW’s past.
BMW will convert its plant in Munich to pure battery-electric vehicle production from 2027 onwards.
