Octopus Energy and Vauxhall offer drivers almost £660 in annual savings to switch to an EV

Vauxhall and green tech company Octopus Energy have offered customers £660 worth of savings for switching to EVs.

The offer includes the installation of a home charger and access to Octopus’s EV roaming service, Electric Universe. Drivers can also choose a 100% green electricity tariff from Octopus.

The smart charger installation enables drivers to move to the UK’s first flexible EV charging tariff, Intelligent Octopus, and get an initial £25 off their bill for doing so. The innovative tariff creates daily bespoke smart charge plans for each connected car, charging them when power is at its cheapest and greenest.

Overall, customers on the tariff can save up to £660 per year on charging costs compared to a standard variable rate and help balance the energy grid at the same time. Drivers will be able to include the cost of their Octopus installed charger in Vauxhall’s ‘Plug and Go’ package.

With one card, one app and one account, Electric Universe gives drivers access to over 310,000 public chargers across the world – with all charges from any of Electric Universe's more than 460 participating partner networks appearing on a single monthly bill. On top of this, the partners will ensure every new Vauxhall EV sold in the UK comes with an Electric Universe card and £10 introductory credit.

The partnership will simplify the UK’s switch to electric vehicles and help improve the country’s electric vehicle ownership experience at home and on the road. It comes as Vauxhall begins its own road to net zero. By 2028, the company has committed to be fully electric.

“With the range of vehicles, chargers, flexible tariffs like ‘Intelligent Octopus’ and roaming services like ‘Electric Universe’ available now, making the switch has become an absolute no-brainer,” said Rebecca Dibb-Simkin, Chief Product Officer at Octopus Energy Group. “Going electric is not only good for the planet, it's also cheaper than fuelling gas-guzzlers and has the added benefit of helping to end our dependence on fossil fuels.”

James Taylor, Acting Managing Director, Vauxhall, said they are enabling EV drivers to charge at home in an affordable way and simplifying public charging by providing access to many networks across the UK with just one card.
