China’s BYD to enter European markets this autumn with three EVs; first deliveries in Q4

Chinese automaker BYD said it is set to enter major European markets with a range of new energy passenger vehicles this autumn.

The company’s planned European expansion will introduce three full-electric passenger vehicles: Han, a sleek and sporty E-segment sedan; Tang, a zero-emission seven-seater family SUV; and European styled Atto 3, an expressive electric C-segment SUV.

The BYD Han is the company's flagship vehicle.

The company didn’t share price details but said that all the models will be exhibited at this year’s Paris Motor Show in October and that the initial phase is primarily focused on Benelux and Nordic markets. For the rollout, the company has partnered with Louwman in the Netherlands, Hedin Mobility Group in Sweden and Germany, Nic. Christiansen Group in Denmark, RSA in Norway and Shlomo Motors in Israel.

The first passenger vehicles will be delivered to customers in the fourth quarter of 2022, BYD said.

The Han comes with advanced Blade Battery and has two electric motors, generating an all-wheel-drive system for safety and handling. The combined power of the dual motor system delivers 380 kW or 516 horsepower with a 0-100km/h (62mph) sprint time of 3.9 seconds, the company said.

The BYD Tang SUV has already made a successful entry into the Norwegian market.

The seven-seater SUV Tang, which entered the European market with the August 2021 launch in Norway, comes with a variable all-wheel drive system. The Tang can go from 0 to 100km/hr (62mph) in 4.6 seconds, the company said.

The Atto 3 is the first SUV built on BYD’s advanced e-Platform 3.0, the company said. The vehicle’s distinctive silhouette and alloy wheels make it a real eye-catcher in its category, BYD claims.

The BYD Atto 3 sits in the popular C-segment.

“With more models to offer, BYD is now ready for Europe,” said Michael Shu, General Manager and Managing Director, BYD Europe and International Cooperation Division. “These are exciting times for BYD, and for e-mobility options in Europe.”

Over the past decades, BYD has focused on advanced technologies spanning cobalt free Lithium Iron-Phosphate (LFP) batteries, electric motors, electronic control systems and automotive-grade chips. Emerging from this considerable research and development is the ground-breaking Blade Battery, which BYD claims is revolutionising safety, durability and performance in the EV industry.
