McMurtry’s electric fan car, Spéirling, has won the hillclimb event and set a new all-time record at its debut Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Driven by former F1 and IndyCar driver Max Chilton, the 1000bhp/tonne RWD fan car covered the 1.16-mile (1.86 km) track in 39.06 seconds. The Spéirling broke the previous timed shootout record of 41.6 seconds set in 1999 by Nick Heidfeld, as well as Volkswagen ID.R’s 2019 practice time of 39.9 seconds.

The McMurtry Spéirling is the first electric car to race on track at the Goodwood Festival.
