Kia EV6 scoops up Red Dot Design Awards wins

The Kia EV6 has been crowned the ‘Best of the Best’ at the prestigious 2022 Red Dot Design Awards for its pioneering and forward-looking design.

Kia’s all-electric crossover was also the winner of the ‘Innovative Products’ category.

This year’s entries were assessed by a 50-member jury of independent designers, design professors and trade journalists.

Since the Red Dot Design Awards began in 1955 it has become “one of the largest design competitions in the world,” according to Kia.

While aesthetics is key to the Red Dot award, the product design competition also evaluates criteria such as functionality, ergonomics, quality, and ecological compatibility.

The EV6 is Kia’s first BEV and was built on the firm’s new design philosophy called ‘Opposites United’.

“This guarantees a powerful visual identity with contrasting combinations of sharp stylistic elements and sculptural shapes,” said Kia.

Karim Habib, head of Kia’s global design centre, commented: “The EV6 is a very important vehicle for the Kia brand, as it is our first fully dedicated EV with our best technology for a new era. We have the ambition to keep pushing the boundaries of automotive design and to back up product substance with inventive, bold, and forward-looking designs.”

The EV6 is also Kia’s first car to be based on its Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), which provides a more spacious interior.

With a WLTP range of up to 328 miles per charge, the EV6 needs 18 minutes to be charged from 10-80%.

The award comes hot on the heels of the EV6 being named 2022 Car of the Year, Best Car of the Year and the UK’s What Car? Car of the Year 2022.
