UK customers can visit Tesla’s Design Studio from today to explore their new all-electric, mid-size SUV – Model Y.

Boasting superior performance, leading range, maximum safety, and the most advanced technology, the two versions available are the Long Range AWD and Performance.

Prices for the Long Range All-Wheel Drive start at £54,990 and first deliveries will be from early next year.

With up to 315 miles of WLTP range, bags of storage and a medical-grade HEPA air filter, the AWD is described by Tesla as “the ultimate combination of performance and utility”.

The American company estimates that its Performance model will be available for UK deliveries from mid-2022, with prices starting at £64,980.

The Long Range has a 0-60mph sprint of just 4.8 seconds, while the Performance drops this to 3.5 seconds.

Inside the Model Y, the driver and passengers are given an expansive view with high seating and a panoramic glass roof. Those travelling with a lot of luggage will benefit from the 2,100 litres of storage space and, as with Tesla’s Model 3, the Model Y is opened and locked using your smartphone, so you do not need any keys.

All the controls for the EV are managed via a single 15-inch touchscreen interface, which will only get smarter over time with frequent over-the-air software updates.

Tesla’s mobile app also offers additional features, including remote unlock, Summon, remote pre-conditioning, location tracking and Speed Limit Mode.

Designed to be the safest mid-size SUV, the Y has a low centre of gravity and large crumple zones to offer maximum protection.

Tesla now has over 6,000 Superchargers, as well as its new V3 Superchargers dotted across Europe, meaning Model Y owners can charge at rates of up to 1,000 miles per hour.

A seven-seat version is available in the USA, but not been made available in Europe yet.
