Just a few more days to go and the first ever official celebration of electric vehicle technology will be here. On September 9th there will be the inaugural World EV Day and the charging infrastructure provider IONITY has announced it will be one of the founding partners.

This celebration has been created with the goal of increasing consumer awareness about greener technology and helping the transition from internal combustion engines to battery electric vehicles.

The initiative, organised by Green.TV and ABB, a leading global technology company that has sold more than 14,000 DC fast chargers across more than 80 countries, keeps gaining momentum, with IONITY’s announcement just the latest in a growing list of leading brand partners.

IONITY is a joint venture by BMW Group, Mercedes Benz AG, Ford Motor Company and the Volkswagen Group with Audi and Porsche. The World EV Day partnership shows the importance of this event as it highlights the pledge and support of multiple OEMs towards electric vehicle technology.

The automakers are not the only ones making a pledge. We reported few weeks ago, that drivers will  be asked to commit to an online pledge to make their next car an electric vehicle, in order to recognise the crucial role that electric vehicles play in driving forward sustainable transport.

IONITY believes that World EV Day will help speed the transition to an all-electric future, according to Dr. Michael Hajesch, CEO IONITY.

“Celebrating World EV Day is a great way of recognising the need for change and highlighting the work that has already been done, from a reliable and fast charging infrastructure to the latest innovation in the electric vehicle sector,” he said. “Driving an EV across Europe should be the new normal, and it is our mission to support the transition and bring high-power electric vehicle charging to everyone, everywhere.”

IONITY has the mission to change trans-European traveling by developing a wide and reliable infrastructure that will help normalise EV traveling. The fact that the company has ambitious goals highlights even more the importance of this partnership, according to Ade Thomas, Founder of Green.TV.

“I’m delighted that World EV Day is partnering up with IONITY, the leading fast charging network,” he said. “IONITY is a pioneer in making e-mobility ready for long distance travel, and a truly great partner alongside World EV Day’s mission to bring about a greener mobility future.”

If you are interested or know someone that it is interested in being part of the all-electric revolution, Green.TV and ABB invite you to take a pledge by visiting www.worldevday.org/ev-pledge.
